MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT | 14 | 15 | 16 Friday, December 16th 12:00am Sticklips + Rock Dove The musical musings of Sticklips have been likened to "a bunny with cyborg implants." The fluffy, herbivorous part of that equation is songwriter Johanna Warren, who over the years has attracted a shifting cast of musical geniuses who collectively cultivate a diverse garden of influences ranging from Nigerian High Life to experimental noise. The resulting genre-bending amalgam is sure to tickle the fancies of bunny and cyborg enthusiasts alike.
On the band's 2009 debut, "It is Like a Horse/It is Not Like Two Foxes" - recorded in drummer/producer Jim Bertini's childhood bedroom in New Jersey - Warren's sweet pop-folk melodies float on an ocean of electric guitar counter-melodies, analog synths and electronic noise, compliments of the late great Jonathan "JP" Nocera, who ascended to another dimension in 2011. The band's 2012 follow-up, "Zemi," is a tribute to Nocera and features his composition "Lullaby." MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT | 17 |
