Lily & Horn Horse:
Lily: Sometimes Matt just pulls out a cowbell and just starts smacking on it during one of the songs, and it’s very distracting when he does it. But sometimes we add a little percussion.
Matt: Yeah, according to Lily it’s never attractive. It never sounds attractive.
The cowbell?
Matt: Yeah, confusing and not appealing to you. Right?
Lily: It’s just… Yeah, I would have to say yes.
Scott Yoder:
Seasoned musician Scott Yoder has travelled a persistent & diverse path since he first began performing as a young teenager. From starting out with the noisy garage pop of his former band The Pharmacy to playing as a backing musician for Kimya Dawson he has always reinvented himself. All the while opening for bands such as Fleet Foxes, Smith Westerns, Black Lips & Kevin Morby.
As a solo musician he further evolved his sound into fronting an electrified & theatrical band of glammy freaks across the US & Europe. After a series of cassettes he released his first solo LP “Looking Back In Blue” to critical acclaim in May 2016. “Lyrically impressive songs & melodies drive this album” (Surviving the Golden Age) “No matter what the sound the songwriting remains the strongest part of Scott’s work” (Clunk Magazine).
His new 7” “Ways Of Love” (Greenway Records) comes out in September as he embarks on a US tour. Drawing inspiration from T. Rex, The Damned & Kate Bush the new single evokes a moody & danceable darkness that compels you to follow him deeper. Look for him & his band (featuring Shawn Randles from Boyfriends, Bryant Moore from The True Loves & Brent Zmrhal from Slushy) this fall as he tours the USA.
Howardian:
Howardian is an American pop collective fronted by Ian Vanek (x-Japanther.) The group uses loose poly rhythms, sticky synth melodies and dynamic vocal hooks to make strange songs for weird people. The resulting infectious art-rock is authentic and catchy. Howardian's tracks feature fuzzy, distorted walls of sound and plenty of samples, all with a scuzzy garage-rock vibe.

8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 Friday, April 13th 8:00pm Lorkin O'Reilly Lorkin O'Reilly:
He may call Hudson home, but Lorkin O'Reilly's music exudes the Scottish terrain from whence he recently came with naught but a guitar on his back, a head full of song, and hands schooled in UK folk avatars John Martyn and Nick Drake. Which is not to say his spare, gorgeous debut EP After the Thaw sounds purely vintage. It does not. Although it could hold its own against, say, Pink Moon, O'Reilly weaves in a distinctly postmodern ache, a la Elliott Smith, and the occasional turn of 21st-century phrase. All is lovingly swaddled in quietly defiant lo-fi production courtesy of Jesse Lauter and Kenny Siegal (Johnny Society), whose Catskill studio/record label, Old Soul Studios, proudly offers the services of a tape machine. Thus, each song on this too-short offering begins and ends with distinctive, rarely heard hiss, conveying unfussy analog warmth, left in like sweet, tobacco-tinged breath.
After the Thaw's five tunes feature mostly just O'Reilly, with minimal overdubs of resonator guitar, plangent cello, understated percussion, and subtle mystery sounds. The effect is bracingly intimate, allowing the depth and considerable power of the tunes to rise unimpeded to the fore. Lyrically, the man is a wily poet. He may only be 22, but O'Reilly's been through some shit. Yet for him, it's only amplified the beauty of life.

Niall Connolly:
1977. The year that punk was born. With only hours left to spare it also produced a baby boy in the suburbs of Cork, Ireland, born with his ears piqued to the murmurs and clatter around him.
As he grew the soundtrack changed. Nirvana on the Walkman. Leonard Cohen on his sister’s stereo. The surge of bands and songwriters emerging from the 1990’s Cork music scene. Later it became snippets of eavesdropped New York conversation. Tales of woe on the radio. The sights and sounds of tours across Europe.
All of it gets woven into a tapestry of words. Then melody. Harmonies added in the studio. Electricity, sincerity, and humor on the stage. At the core of every Niall Connolly song is the story, one that unfolds a layer with each listen. Born in 1979 in Akron, Ohio, Kurt Kotheimer grew up just blocks from the one-time home of noted abolitionist John Brown. He started playing the guitar at age eight and shortly thereafter switched to the bass in a scheme to get more gigs. He spent most of the aughts in the San Francisco Bay Area playing improvised music, plugging audio mixers back into themselves, and reading everything on the internet about digital synthesis. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and maintains a busy performance schedule playing bass with his band ROMCOM and as a sideman. Recently he has performed with artists such as Bobby Previte and The Visitors, Chris Cohen (Deerhoof), Michael Coleman (Michael Rocketship), Ava Mendoza, Matt Nelson (Tune-Yards), Gerald Cleaver, and Shahzad Ismaily.

Tyler Wood was born and raised in the northeast corner of the U.S. Although Presque Isle, Maine is known more for its potatoes and skidoos, he had a rich musical upbringing and nurturing teachers. His first instruments were piano, trumpet, and cardboard-box drums.
When Tyler went off to college, his plan to study astrophysics was virtually eclipsed by the purchase of a real drum-set and a new-found love for hip-hop and recording. The campus had a dingy basement studio, where he encountered his first reel-to-reel tape machine and his first sampler. He began playing, recording, and mixing music of all kinds. A weekly restaurant gig paid the bills, and a hip-hop radio show kept the vinyl flowing in. But New York beckoned, as it will…
Upon arriving in Brooklyn in 2006, Tyler was greeted by a bed-bug infestation and a furniture moving job. Not to be thwarted, he soon began to tour and record with acts such as Luke Temple, Glass Ghost, Chester French, and Joan As Police Woman. During this time, he also built a studio and a parallel career producing, recording, and mixing records.
In 2009, Tyler reconnected with an old acquaintance. Immediately recognizing her brilliance, Tyler teamed up with fellow Mainer and fellow “T.W.” Therese Workman to form Oh My Goodness. Their debut album was released in 2011 and the follow-up is nearly complete.
Tyler also has been traveling the world as chief audio engineer with the non-profit group Remix <--> Culture, recording remote video shoots of incredible folkloric music from Morocco to Brazil.
Tyler currently resides in the Hudson Valley of New York, is bed-bug free, and continues to make, record, and mix music every day.

Eric's new album Construction Time & Demolition came out on April 6th
"…we all thought he’d just play a few songs from his new album, “amERICa”, a few classics from his Stiff Records years, and we’d go home after hearing “Whole Wide World”. But this was not a night of an old rocker going through the motions. It was an evening of pure rock and roll; an evening of performance art with a garage-rock flavor. It was a combination of Neil Young’s “Ragged Glory” era, Wilco’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”, Lou Reed’s “Metal Machine Music”, and any album in the Sonic Youth catalog. Songs began with layers and layers of different frequencies of noise and ended with these sounds blending into the next tune…"
--Scott Hudson, Argus Leader / Live Ledge
__
Wreckless Eric is Eric Goulden. He was given the name to hide behind. After a while he realized he was stuck with it. Onstage he hides behind nothing, he tells the truth with big open chords, lilting enchantment, squalls of feedback, dissonance, bizarre stories and backchat.
Eric began his recording life on Stiff Records in 1977 with his enduring hit Whole Wide World when he was little more than an ex-teenage art student. Eventually he sidestepped the mechanics of stardom to become Britain’s biggest underground household name, much loved and often underestimated.
He shuns the dictates of nostalgia and doesn’t do comebacks for the simple reason that he never went away. His 2015 album ‘amERICa’ reminded those who’ve kept the faith and new generations of fans what he’s all about.
“Many artists of Wreckless Eric’s era and tradition have imitators, but few of yesteryear’s outliers can catch up with their descendants, let alone best them. amERICa is that rare record.” --Pitchfork
Forty two years of touring and recording have left Eric in good shape and his brand new album Construction Time & Demolition does exactly what the title suggests.
He’s coming to town. MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT |
