Clermont was the Hudson River seat of the politically and socially prominent Livingston family of New York for more than 230 years. Lovely landscaping and river views. House tour available. Kid Friendly.
FASNY >
Whoa. The museum of Firefighting has 300 years of firefighting history under one huge roof, with about 60 full-sized decommissioned fire vehicles parked inside for viewing (with some designated for kids to climb on). A great trip for adults and kids, especially on a rainy afternoon.

Olana >
The second-most-visted State Historic Site. Drive the ten minutes outside of Hudson and you’ll see why. Olana, considered one of the most important artistic residences and planned landscapes in the United States, is the last and perhaps greatest masterpiece created by Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900). Bring the camera and the paintbox for breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Catskills. Lots of hiking trails and a tour of that lovingly quirky house.
